Sunrise over calm water with distant mountains and scattered clouds in the sky

Welcome to The Thread

an emerging interfaith/interspiritual learning and living space

What if the way we respond to the polycrisis is the crisis?

We’ve been socialized to believe that if you’re spiritual, you’re not disturbed by the multiple crises erupting all over the world. And that when things fall apart, being helpful means acting quickly, without showing the cracks. But what if that way of being fuels the crisis? Embeds it more deeply?

The Thread That Holds is a formation for those called to serve with presence, courage, and care in the midst of uncertainty.

Rooted in spiritual practice and collective inquiry, this six-session offering invites us to sit with fracture, honor complexity, and reimagine what ministry can be.

The Thread’s name was inspired by a William Stafford poem called “The Way It Is”:

“The Way It Is” by William Stafford

There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
